Water Management

For new buildings or renovation and/or extending an existing building.

Water is quickly becoming a significant cost in living in a house and water conservation has become more important. It was a Government supplied service that has now become a business supplied comodity. This has led to a dramatic increase in the price of water and made on-site storage of rainwater and the reuse of waste water a priority.

Tanks.
Australia is the driest continent on Earth. The more water you can use from tanks, the less water you have to buy. This saves you money and saves the environment. If you are smart enough and get enough rainfall, you can have enough stored to not use the town water supply. Install the largest capicity (tanks) that is practical for your site. It is usually more cost effective and smarter to use a few smaller tanks than one large one. If one tank fails, you don't lose all your water. The cost of large tanks (over the 30,000 litre) rise sharply due to the increase in transport and installation costs. Plan where you are going to place your tanks and how the water is going to get to those tanks when you are designing your house.

Grey Water
Waste water from the bath, shower, vanity basin and washing machine (and sometimes the sink) is called Grey Water. It can be used immediately on the garden or can be treated (filtered), stored for a short time and used for washing machines or flushing toilets. In a suburban environment, this is the best way to reuse water.

On-site Management (Large Sites)
On large sites, usually rural, an onsite Household Sewerage Treatment Plant is used. They produce better quality water than older style septics if properly maintained and have far less environmental impact. The water can be used the same as Grey Water mentioned above. Some products claim to produce drinkable water.
